Women’s tennis clinches a birth into the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament with a win against Friends University Friday Night.
“It feels so great,” said Tyler Harrell, Biology junior, “all season, our coaches have been telling us that we are capable of achieving this. To prove them right has been incredible. It’s been a goal since my freshman year, and this has been an awesome group of girls to accomplish it with.”
After being rescheduled on Thursday, the Builders made up their rain out against Friends.
The Lady Builders finished the day with a 6-3 overall win over the Falcons.
All three doubles teams for Southwestern got a win today.
“Hayley [Fort, biology junior], and I had to go out on the court aggressive, moving into net, and putting away easy shots,” said Harrell, “Communication and working together as a team definitely helped us secure a win today.”
Sara Peck, Biology sophomore, Abby Gengler, business sophomore, and Haley Porter, freshman, all won their singles matches to clinch the win.
The women’s team considers themselves one of the top teams in the conference.
“We’ve got a really talented team this year,” said Harrell, “but what’s really put us over the top have been the long hours of practice and conditioning that we’ve put in since August. “
The Men’s team was as successful as the women, dominating Friends 8-1. The only loss on the day was the number six singles position.
The Builders will finish their conference regular season Monday morning in Salina against Kansas Wesleyan.
