The next two meets for the women’s tennis team will determine the difference between possibly finishing anywhere from second to fifth place in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference. For the men, it’s becoming more a matter of saving pride.
The teams play their last two matches this week, taking on Tabor tomorrow at 3 p.m. in Hilsboro and then second-place Kansas Wesleyan University at home at 9 a.m. Saturday.
The women thrashed McPherson College Monday, beating the Bulldogs 9-0. Molly Kearns, elementary education senior, started the women off, winning No. 1 singles 6-1, 6-3. The win propelled the Builders to a 3-1 conference record. They are currently in a tie for third place in the KCAC with Bethany College, to whom they lost 8-1 last week.
The men didn’t fare so well. They lost 9-0, moving them to a 1-4 conference record and putting them at seventh place in the conference. They have been held winless in the past three meets, and their only conference win was against last-place Sterling College. Their meet against seventh-place KWU Saturday will likely determine who ends the season in sixth place.
These will be the last regular season games for Kearns, Jeff Smith, education senior, DJ Wilson, business administration senior, and Alesia Schneweis, biology senior.
