Women’s tennis dominated Central Christian Tuesday morning winning 9-0. Central Christian only brought five athletes to compete leading to two doubles matches and five singles.

Singles

1. Sydney Shields (SC) def. Shelbi Mathis (CCC), 6-0, 6-0
2. Nya Cheatham (SC) def. Stevie Penn (CCC), 6-0, 6-1
3. Anna Mankoski (SC) def. Kelsey Marx (CCC), 6-2, 6-0
4. Jerlecia Thompson (SC) def. Em Barnett (CCC), 6-1, 6-1
5. Haley Porter (SC) def. Meagan Gayer (CCC) by default
Doubles
1. Cheatham/Hughes (SC) def. Mathis/Gayer (CCC), 8-0
2. Porter/Peck (SC) def. Marx/Barnett (CCC), 8-1

The Lady Builders also squeezed past Southwestern Christian Tuesday afternoon, 6-3. This year was SCU’s first time have a women’s tennis team therefore only bringing three players.

SC lost the top two singles matches and the number one doubles but due to lack of players SCU was forced to forfeit the others.

Freshman, Anna Mancoskie, was the only lady to claim an actual win against SCU.

The women return to action this Saturday for the first conference match of the season against Bethany. First serve is scheduled for 9 am.

The men’s team also picked up two wins Tuesday. The first was a 9-0 sweep against Central Christian. The No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles matches were not played due to Central Christian so the Builders gained automatic wins there.

2. Lane/Baker (SC) def. J. Williams/McCord (CCC), 8-0

Southwestern Christian was next up on the Builders list of defeated team. SC came out on top 6-3. Chris Lane, freshman, and Braden Baker, sophomore, were the only duo to win their doubles match. The Builders came back in the singles matches to gain the victory. The men’s team also plays next kicking off conference at Bethany Saturday.
