The Bulldogs of McPherson College visited SC on Saturday for a doubleheader and came away with two wins. These games are Southwestern’s first two losses in conference.

The first game ended with a score of 10-7.

Each team was virtually the same in the hitting category, with McPherson amassing 11 hits while Southwestern totaled 12. Errors played no factor as well, with McPherson committing one and SC committing one as well.

The fatal flaw of the Lady Moundbuilder game plan was the nine runners who got on base due to walks by the pitcher. SC totaled nine batters walked, while McPherson only had 4.

MacKenzie Lyons, senior pitcher, Cady Norton, senior first baseman and Kayleen Gonzalez, senior left fielder, all tied with two RBI’s in the first contest.

The second game was much more unforgiving for Southwestern, as they lost 8-1.

Loren Wright, junior third baseman, led the team with three hits. Wright also was the lone Lady Moundbuilder to earn an RBI the entire game.

In the end, leaving runners on base was the missing piece for SC today that could have turned the tide in the doubleheader.

Southwestern softball travels to North Newton on Wednesday to do battle with the Threshers of Bethel College.
