Conner Drendel, elementary education senior, and Sydnee Nelson, biochemistry senior, earned the first Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Runners of the Week awards for the 2012-2013 season.

On Saturday, Drendel finished eighth out of 149 runners at the Wichita State University J.K. Gold Classic to lead the men’s cross country team. He ran a time of 19:05 for the 6K run and aided in the Moundbuilders third place finish as a team.

Nelson made a big improvement from last year’s opening meet. She ran 15:27 for the women’s 4K run, which was 73 seconds faster than the previous year. Nelson finished 17th out of 102 runners.

Both Drendel and Nelson had the best times out of all KCAC runners at the meet.
