Men’s soccer officially started conference play Saturday evening. The Builders suffered a tough loss 2-1 against Kansas Wesleyan.

Robert Sordo, freshman forward, scored the single goal for the Builders.

“That’s not a bad loss, we’ll take it. They are three time conference champions. This is a building block, we’re going to come right back strong,” said Sordo.

Ian Mutio, junior keeper, made 10 saves while Jordan Garcia led the team in total shots with six including four on goal.

As a team the Coyotes out-shot Southwestern 23-11.

The Builders battle until the last seconds but just were not ever able to get another goal.

Tyler Sunderland, freshman midfielder, said “We matched them in all parts of the field, we were solid in the back and we looked very dangerous going forward.”

Jordan Garcia, junior midfielder mentioned what the team needs to improve on for the next game.

“We need to finish when we get the chance, against good teams in the conference we won’t be able to generate too many opportunities,” said Garcia.

The team now moves to 5-3-1 on the season, 0-1 in conference.

Next up in conference play for the Builders is at Friends University, at 8:30 PM Wednesday.
