Michael Morales, senior forward, sunk a free throw with less than a second remaining in Tuesday’s game to seal the Builder’s 87-85 victory over Grace University.
The home win improves the men’s record to 8-2 on the season.
The Builders hit 50 percent of their shots from the field, including 53.6 percent in the first half. Caydrick Bloomquist, junior guard, led all scorers with 17 points, hitting seven of 16 shots.
Morales racked up an impressive double-double, scoring 15 points and grabbing 13 rebounds.
The Royals had a slim two-point lead going into halftime, but couldn’t hang on in the closing minutes. They won the turnover battle 18-14, but were out rebounded 45-43.
Southwestern travels to Pittsburg University on Saturday. Tipoff begins at 3 p.m.
