The Lady Builder golf team traveled to start their spring play at the Lady Crusader Spring Invitational hosted by the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.

The tournament was initially going to be Feb. 25 and 26, but due to strong winds, the first round was canceled. The women’s golf team ended up playing an 18-hole tournament and battling 30 mile per hour winds on Feb. 26.

Out of eight teams, the Lady Builders finished tying for sixth place. The team concluded with a score of 363 points. They were 75 strokes over par.

Redlands Community College took the invitational with 311 points. The hosting team followed in second place. With scores of 73 and 77 strokes, the Lady Cougars from Redlands had the top two golfers of the invitational.

Hannah Mason, biology sophomore, hit the least for the Lady Builders with 81 strokes.

“This was our first tourney of the spring, and we have not had a lot of practice time due to weather,” said Mason. “I had a few holes where I made silly mistakes that hurt my score.”

Alyssa Richardson, communication sophomore, had 90 strokes. Jackie McCauley, business administration junior, followed her with two more strokes.

Brenna Truhe, accounting freshman, ended fourth for the team with 100 strokes. The last place for the Lady Builders was for MaryBeth Bryan, biology freshman, having 129 strokes.

“Conditions were rough out there, and it was a struggle on the greens,” said Bryan.

The Lady Builders will try to get back into their path on March 18. They will be hosting the South Central Kansas Spring Invitational at Quail Ridge Golf Course.
