Following a heart-wrenching loss to Friends University Thursday, the Lady Builders responded with a win in McPherson Saturday. The team beat the Lady Bulldogs 79-69 to stay in the hunt with Friends for the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference title. The win improves Southwestern to 18-6 on the season and 12-2 in conference play.

The Lady Builders found themselves down late in the first half 26-23, when the tide shifted their way. They closed out the first half on an 11-0 run and went into halftime up 34-26. Despite a relentless Lady Bulldog effort, the Lady Builders secured their lead and took the 10-point victory.

Twenty five of the team’s points came from the free-throw line, where they hit 78.1 percent. Both teams were relatively even shooting on the night. The Lady Builders hit 38.3 percent compared to McPherson’s 37.1 percent.

Salina will be the setting for Southwestern’s next game at 6 p.m. Thursday. They face the Kansas Wesleyan Lady Coyotes, who are 14-11 overall and 9-5 in the conference.
