Coming off a loss to Bethel, Southwestern traveled to Lindsborg to take on the Lady Swedes.

The Lady Builders were 5-7 in the month of April coming into today’s game.

The Swedes started the bottom of the second with a leadoff double to right center. That run came in to score on an RBI double.

That was the only run of the game through the first four innings.

Bethany added to their total in the bottom of the fifth. A one out walk followed by a single to center put runners at the corners. A stolen base put two runners in scoring position with only one out.

The Swedes scored their second run of the game on a sacrifice squeeze. Two RBI singles extended Bethany’s lead to four.

The Builders began to threaten in the top of the seventh.

Shelby Tucker, sophomore utility, got the inning started with a single to center. That hit was followed by a single to right by Rachel Baker, sophomore pitcher.

Alexis Del Toro, freshman outfielder, hit an RBI single down the left field line to get the Builders on the board.

With two outs, Sara Blackburn, junior pitcher, hit a single into left to load the bases.

With bases loaded and two outs, Kylea Wilson, sophomore shortstop, came to the plate representing the go-ahead run. Wilson was not able to come through with the clutch hit, striking out looking to end the game.

Del Toro led the Builders with three hits in her three at bats.

Baker ended up taking the loss after giving up 11 hits and four earned runs.

The Builders struck first in the second game.

Megan Walentynowicz, freshman utility, singled to left to start the top of the second. Audrey Vorderlandwher, sophomore infielder, followed that up with a hit of her own. Tucker made it three hits in a row with another single.

Baker hit a sac fly to left to score the first run of the game. Sarah Yzquierdo, sophomore utility, hit an RBI single to make it a two run game. Howard hit an RBI double to finish up the scoring in the inning.

The Swedes answered back in the bottom half of the inning scoring five times, on six hits including a homerun and two triples.

Bethany extended their lead in the fourth, scoring six times with 10 coming to bat in the inning.

Southwestern was able to muster a run in the top of the fifth on an RBI single by Wilson.

The game ended early on a run rule after the Swedes scored a run in the bottom of the fifth to go up eight.

The Swedes scored 12 runs on 14 hits to win the second game of the double header.

The Builders play their last home game tomorrow night against the University of Saint Mary. The Spires come into the double header sporting a 5-11 conference record. The game will be played at Black Creek.
