Good leadership is key for any sport. For the SC men’s golf team, they look to Steven Venn, sophomore biology science major.

“He is definitely a leader,” said Brad Sexson, head golf coach.

Venn has an interesting background that, according to Sexson, has a big impact on why he is such a leader. Venn was in the army for six years before deciding to come to Southwestern to get his degree in biology science and participate on the golf team.

Venn is from Winfield. He has been playing golf on and off for 15 years and has also participated in football and wrestling.

He chose to come to Southwestern to play golf although he always knew he was going to continue his education but he wasn’t positive on his major.

“That wasn’t set-in-stone,” said Venn about his major, “I knew I was going to get an education.”

Venn is someone to look up to while playing golf for his hard work and dedication and is a great leader for the team.

“He has a great work ethic and he tries very hard at practice and he is always the first one at practice and the last to leave,” said freshman golfer Jonah Pfingsten.
