Third place is where the men’s and women’s golf teams ended up at the end of the Ottawa Spring Invitational. The tournament was played on the Par 72 Eagle Bend Golf Course in Lawrence.
The men placed third out of the seven teams in their pool shooting 309-297—606. The Builders shot a first round score of 309 which placed them in fourth place after day one. They were able to move into third position when they carded the best round of the tournament at 297.
The women finished in third after shooting 355-337—692. Their respectable KCAC opponent Kansas Wesleyan grabbed first place carding 346-334—680. The Lady Builders placed ahead of Ottawa who shot 346-361—707.
Leading the way for the men was Brian Peck, business sophomore, who placed fourth overall. Peck shot 74-73—147.
Peck said, “It was nice not having to deal with rain for once. Without the rain I had better grip and it helped my swing a lot.”
Following Peck was Shane Gilbert, business administration senior, who tied for fifth overall shooting 78-72—150. Gilbert carded the lowest round for the Builders as he shot a second round of 72.
Hannah Mason, biology senior, led the way for the Lady Builders as both of her rounds were the best for the team. Mason carded a 78-79—156 that put her in third place overall.
“I need to be more aggressive with my putting,” said Mason. “I’m not pleased with finishing third when I know I could have easily won the tournament.”
Following just two places and six shots behind Mason was Alyssa Richardson, professional communication senior. Richardson finished fifth overall shooting 82-20—162.
“I drove the ball well,” said Richardson, “I had a few moments of not being focused mentally that caused me to miss shots.”
