The men’s golf team was able to take advantage of their home course when they took a first place finish at the South Central Kansas Spring Invitational in Winfield. The Builders hosted the tournament at Quail Ridge Golf Course.

The women finished in third place to give them their third top five finish of the year. The Lady Builders trailed first place, Kansas Wesleyan, by 28 strokes when they posted a score of 357-346—703.

The men were lead to medalist honors by Shane Gilbert, business administration senior, as he shot an even par on Tuesday’s round. Gilbert finished first place individually by carding a 77-72—149.  The team finished over second place Ottawa by 18 stokes when they won with a score of 313-296—609.

Gilbert, said, “It feels amazing to know I took first place at my last ever home tournament. I like doing well individually but most importantly, I helped my teammates to a win.”

Seth Bryan, business management junior, followed Gilbert by two strokes and finished third overall. Bryan carded the best round of the tournament when he shot a 71(-1) on the final round. He totaled 80-71—151.

Bryan, said, “I tried not to think about our home course advantage but it was always in the back of my head. I don’t think it affected my play at all. I’m glad to see our team is composed in these situations.”

The Lady Builders were led by Hannah Mason, biology senior, as she took her seventh career  first place finish while shooting a 79-73—152. Her second round score of 73 was the best round of the entire tournament.

Mason, said, “I tried not to thank about it being my last home tournament but it definitely hit me when I walked off hole 18. Its bittersweet and I’m glad to walk away with a first place finish.”

The next builder on the leaderboard was Alyssa Richardson, communication senior. She placed seventh by shooting 82-87—169, just 17 strokes shy of Mason.
