The Builders topped the Kansas Wesleyan Coyotes 69-63 at home on Thursday for their third straight win.  It was also the Builder’s third straight game decided by six points or less.

The game opened with Kansas Wesleyan jumping out to a quick lead.  With 8:20 left in the first half the Builders found themselves down 21-13.  The Builders never lead in the first half as the teams went into the locker rooms at halftime with the score 31-25 Kansas Wesleyan.

The Builders responded by scoring the first eight points of the second half to go up 33-31.  The remainder of the game consited of continuous momentum shifts as the second half saw six ties and five lead changes.

With 1:52 remaining in regulation, Marcus Batiste, senior forward, hit a shot to tie the game at 61.  On the Coyote’s next possession, Justin Diggles, senior guard, forced a turnover and was fouled.  Diggles made one of his two free throws to give the Builders the lead.  Diggles continued to make plays on defense as he rebounded a missed Coyote shot on Kansas Wesleyan’s ensuing possesion and was fouled again.  This time Diggles sunk both shots to put the Builders on top 64-61.

Willie McCarty, Kansas Wesleyan senior forward, hit two free throws with 39.4 seconds left to narrow the Builder lead to 66-63.  That would be as close as the Coyotes would get though, as Tim Miser, senior guard, hit three straight shots from the foul line to secure the Builder win.

The Builders shot the ball well in the second half, hitting 54.5 percent of their shots compared to a dismal 39.3 percent in the first.  They also scored 41 points in the paint, 16 points off of turnovers, and 16 fastbreak points.

Miser led the Builders in scoring with 13 points, followed by Batiste who finished with 12.

The Builders next game is at 7 p.m. Saturday at the University of St. Mary in Leavenworth.
