Builder basketball almost pulled off the win in a nail biter against St. Mary Thursday night. The first half was a constant battle for the lead and at half time both teams headed to the locker room tied 36 all.

The second half proved to be as exciting as the first with multiple lead changes. With 21 seconds left the Spires hit a three to take a 75-72 lead. Southwestern wasn’t able to recover from this.

Alex Tyler, senior guard, was sent to the line twice to bring the game back within one point but couldn’t ever tie it. Tyler also took the last second three to tie the game but was just inches short, the ball bouncing off the front of the rim.

Cameron Clark, sophomore forward, recorded a career-high 30 points in the outing. William Tisdale, junior forward, added 15 for the Builders and Brian Lipsey, sophomore guard, contributed 10. Tyler Shirley, senior guard, led Southwestern in boards finishing with 8.

With this loss the Builders move to 6-2 on the season and 0-1 in conference play. Catch the men’s team in action next at 7 in Stewart Fieldhouse Saturday evening.
