The Builder community came together late evening Sept. 10 to raise awareness for World Suicide Prevention Day.

Nikkia Smith, theatre sophomore, spearheaded the effort by inviting members of the Builder community to the event via social networking site, Facebook.

A total of 33 people showed up at The Mound and candles were lit. Shortly after that, Smith shared her personal experience of losing a close friend to suicide. All present then participated in a moment of silence to commemorate those who have lost their lives to suicide.

According to the World Health Organization, almost 3000 people commit suicide daily. For every person who completes a suicide, 20 or more may attempt to end their lives.
