A detrimental second half sealed the Builder’s fate as they fell 83-68 Wednesday in the opening round of the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament to McPherson. The loss brought the men’s final season record to 16-12 overall and 8-10 in conference play.
The Builders stayed with McPherson throughout the first half. They opened up a 10-8 lead on the Bulldogs six and a half minutes in. McPherson had the slight edge going into the locker rooms at halftime up 36-33.
Things began to fall apart for the Builders in the second half. Midway through, the Bulldogs increased their lead to 10 and with 5:30 remaining in regulations, had a 68-55 lead that would not be relinquished.
Samson Shivers, freshman guard, led all scorers with 22 points. Chris Nelson, junior guard, and Ethan Randolph, junior forward, both had 12 points for the Builders. Nelson also had seven rebounds.
There were 51 fouls between the two teams and 69 foul shots taken. Both teams struggled from the free throw line, McPherson shooting 59.5 percent and the Builders shooting 44.4 percent.
The Builders were also out-rebounded 44-36.
