Builder football got their first chance to show off what they have been working hard Saturday afternoon. Their hard work paid off when they defeated Oklahoma Baptist 26-22.

The Bison came out strong in the first quarter ending it with a 15-0 lead.

Southwestern bounced back in the second quarter. Lorenzo Fouts, senior defensive back, sparked the Builders with an interception and later added two more interceptions.

“The first interception seemed to be that  spark that we needed to get ourselves going and settled into the game,” said Fouts.

The team overcame many obstacles throughout the day, one being the heat, another being their own mistakes.

Staying in the game was the key to the Builder win.

“We were shooting ourselves in the foot being in the red zone numerous times and we just could not convert, if we convert it’s not even a game,” said Matt Thompson, senior offensive line.

As with anything the team had their positives and negatives about the day.

Justin Speers, senior defensive line, said “Defense really excelled and dominated in the second half. Our weakness would be that we need to bond together both defense and offense.”

The Builders take a couple weeks off and return to the field to take on Peru State, Sept. 14 at 6 P.M..
