Continuing homecoming events and festivities the annual spelling bee was held Wednesday in Java Jinx’s common area.

 The pronouncer, Drake Foster, history senior, presented the contestants with a plethora of words ranging from simple to complex. With the competition running for a total of nine rounds, first round eliminations included Lani who was competing for Tonebuilders, Anna-lise competing for track, and Ryleigh for softball.

One third and two fifth-round eliminations followed, shortly after a tight battle for first began. Mallory Graves, communication junior, held the longest streak of the competition correctly spelling eight consecutive words. She fell short to Haleigh Johnson, biology junior, who stole the competition in the ninth and final round earning points towards the women’s basketball team.
