Track swept the competition Friday and Saturday in Ahearn Fieldhouse in Manhattan. The men’s and women’s teams were both able to capture first place in the KCAC indoor championships.

The men scraped up a total of 138 points. Tabor College came in second with 117 points, making a deficit of 21. The team was seeded third going into the championships.

Nick Warnke, business sophomore, ran the 1000 meter run, 4×800 and 4×400 meter relays. He placed fifth in the 1000 meter run, third in the 4×400 and first in the 4×800.

Warnke said “Winning the 4×800 was nice because we qualified for nationals.”

Brandyn Willard, physical education junior, placed second in the 400 meter. Hunter Cline got first in the same event.

Willard said “It felt good for the team to get first and second in that race and get us off to start at winning the meet.”

Willard was predicted to win the 400 by a second. It was the first time Cline beat him.

Willard said “Hunter ran a good race. I got stuck behind him but was still able to out kick the St. Mary runner.”

On the other side of things, the women totaled 161 points followed by Friends with 141.

Christine Sheppard, physical performance and sports studies junior, took first in all four of her events. The 60 meter dash, 200 meter dash, 400 meter dash, and 4×400 relay are the four events she ran.

Sheppard said it felt great to take first in all her events, “I couldn’t have done it without my teammates though, I always have them cheering me on.”

“It was amazing to win this meet, especially for our seniors and this being their last indoor season” said Sheppard.

This was the first time for both men and women to be indoor conference champions. This is only the second year for the KCAC to host indoor championships.

Not only did the Builders sweep the meet as teams they also swept meet MVPs. Frank Adelman took the men’s and Christine Sheppard the women’s.

The team has big expectations for the outdoor season.

Sheppard said they would like to go out and get another title so the seniors can have an indoor and outdoor title.
